The Summer of Color: Week One . . .

"And suddenly you know: It's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings"
- Meister Eckhart

Welcome, welcome, welcome to Week One of The Summer of Color 4: Smudge, Splash & Pop

I must say, if our opening week is any indication of how this Summer will go, then we're in for quite an artistic adventure. I'm honored by your enthusiasm, thrilled with number of new players joining in this year, and tremendously grateful for your help in spreading the word about our colorful community. . . .

Last Week:
During our Introductory Week we discussed all the ways you can participate in The Summer of Color. If you'd like a review of the event, just pop over here and take a peep.

This Week:
The real fun begins! We'll be working with our first - of six - color palettes. Your prompt will include two main colors along with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of a third. As indicated last week, your goal will be to create anything you'd like using the combination of the 2 main colors and 1 accent color I assign. And whether you smudge, splash or have a pop of that third color on your piece is up to you. As always, you can create anything at all that you'd like, with color being the only stipulation.

Okay, Okay, Bring On the Color!
You got it. Without further adieu, our first color prompt for the SOC 4 is . . . .

Aqua Blue & Yellow
With a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Hot Pink

To see examples of the color Aqua Blue, click here.
To see examples of the color Yellow, click here.
To see examples of the combination of the two, click here.

Oh, YES! That's Fabulous!
I know, right?! (I've been lurking around our Facebook group for a reason ;) SO, let's get arting!
You may link your Aqua Blue & Yellow (with that Smudge, Splash or Pop of Hot Pink) creations to the widget below. To qualify for the Aqua Blue & Yellow drawing, simply copy and paste your direct link or Flickr feed by this Sunday (10:00 am Pacific Daylight Time), June 15th. Only one link per person, please.

Ready? Okay, Link!

Oh But Wait. What About the First Giveaway?
Yes, of course! Here we go:

Adhesive backed acrylic gems (1 x 12 in) in aqua, a set of 24 Cards in an Instant from Me & My Big Ideas, large bottles of Martha Stewart fine glitter in Turquoise and Lemon Drop, Fimo soft modeling clay in #39 and #10, two spools of Lily Cotton yarn in Sky Blue and Sunshine, one Speedball Speedy-Cut rubber block (to carve your own stamps!), a few decorative napkins for collage and three large Amsterdam Acrylic tubes (4.1 oz) in Nickel Titan Yellow, Turquoise Green and Quinacridone Rose. And, as with all SOC giveaways (because I'm obsessed), there's a smattering of Swarovski crystals thrown in just for fun.

And Who Won Last Week's Giveaway?
Yes, that. The winner of last week's giveaway (taken from the comments section after having deleted any duplicates) including those Montana Paint Pens and an art mug, goes to none other than . . . .

Juniper Goods from Sacramento, CA

Congratulations! Please email me your address and I'll get your new toys right out.

I Think That's It.
Okay, then. GO! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with. . . .

Colorful Kisses,
Kristin xo

  17. A very long time ago, I was purchasing clothing ---not necessarily to wear together. When I put the items on the counter for the clerk to ring up, I thought they looked so good together. I had a yellow sundress, a turquoise cotton jacket and a magenta shirt. I also had something black --can't remember what. Ever since, I've loved that color scheme.

I'll see if I can come up with something.

  79. Kristin,

I honestly thought I had left a comment, but it doesn't look like I did. I appreciate your hosting this event each summer. It's a joy to be here and feel the inspiration from everyone.

May I please make a suggestion? I noticed Chris has left her number. I got so many comments (not as many as yours, of course), but I have had lots of blog hops this week (one a day). I have found that if the person leaves the number they get when they link up, it makes it easier for me to find them. If not, sometimes the name they leave and the blog name are very different. It's just a suggestion, but it would really help find those people who have already visited and thank them for their comment. I simply haven't had time to visit everyone this week, and create art, too.

  80. I got mine done just in the nick of time. Next week I'll be faster, I was working on a large commission this week. I love these colors.
