"Bewildered"
8 x 10 Journal Page
{You've inspired me to play with collage this week. The circular form was taken from a vintage Naval navigation sheet and the "scratchy" edges were directly influenced by my friend Amy's pink piece from last week. The text reads, "she stared at me, bewildered and then she smiled."}
Oh, pretty, pretty Pink . . .
What a beautiful week! Your pieces were full of life, color and often, femininity. I love that pink can be so many things to us - cool and rich as well as soft and sweet - and as a group, we had it all. Thank you for your excitement and encouragement to one another as we continue this colorful journey together. I'm honored to share it with you.
Speaking of share . . .
If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to join our Facebook page to really immerse yourself in The Summer of Color experience. There you'll find interesting links and discussions as well as colorful quotes and questions that we have along the way. I for one am loving it there! Also, please feel free to add your work to our Flickr group found on the sidebar to your right. It's growing at a tremendous rate and at last count, we had over a 150 pictures in our community pool. If your work is not yet represented, please feel free to add to it at any time.
Half way there . . .
Can you believe it? As of this week, we're half way through our color prompts. From this point forward, there will be a total of four (4) more color prompts in addition to one wrap-up week in which we'll be sharing all that we did and learned along the way. If you have not yet participated in The Summer of Color and would like to, please know that you are welcome to pop in at any time. We would be thrilled to have you.
Who won, who won!?
Glad you asked. The Random Number Generator has done it's job and the winner of the Pink giveaway (pictured in the post below) is . . .
Congratulations! Please Email me your address and I'll send them right off.
And now, welcome to YELLOW week!
Your color prompt for this week (Monday July 4th to Sunday 10th) is to create something - anything - that you'd like inspired by the color yellow. Your Bonus! challenge is to somehow incorporate metallics into your work. As before, please (A) link your work in the widget below so that others can find you, (B) leave one comment if you created a Yellow piece and (C) leave two comments if you completed the Bonus! challenge. Good luck!
Here's what's up for grabs . . .
A large (28 x 22') sheet of yellow decorative paper, two vintage (written on and stamped) postcards from the 1930's, Recollections extra fine glitter in Sunflower, one Elite package of 18 and 30' necklace chains, one Jolee's Swarovski crystal pendent in bright yellow, a package of Bristol ATC cards, Craftsmart paint pens and a sprinkling of clear and iridescent Swarovski crystals and beads.
And what is next week's color prompt?
BROWN!
(Monday July 11th - Sunday July 17th)
"I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colors. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns."
-Winston Chruchill
Next week's Bonus! Challenge . . .
Should you choose to accept it, next week's Bonus! Challenge is to incorporate a bold shot of color in your work. Anything at all . . . have fun!

I don't know what I will do after this challenge is over. I will have to come up with a new way to make my self create on a regular basis.
Your collage is so cute! For metal I used metallic paper for the sun, and in the fence posts as well as wire to hold them together.

I really liked working with yellow, though I rarely do it. That's just one more reason this challenge of yours, Kristin, is so great! It inspired a new color use in me. Thank you! And of course, yours is wonderful! ~Kathy
Oh, I used metallic gold (with punchinella) to sparkle it up a bit, like a summer vacation on the beach requires!! Thanks again, Kristin! ~k

My #49 entry has the incorrect link to the summer of color challenge. Could you delete it? Then I'll add another link.
THANKS!
Once again, you blow me away. I love your piece!
my base color, before I laid down yellow is a bronze. You can see it in certain parts and the background gets shiny!
Another fun and colorful week here at Summer of Color....yellow...a perfect color depicting summer. I just entered two bookmarks/tags. Your yellow piece is soooo nice!
I finally took photos of my yellow challenge and posted on my blog:
http://www.anitavanhal.com/2011/07/the-summer-of-color-color-challenge.html
I didn't do the "metal" challenge, but the fabric I used has a metallic shimmer to it...can't wait to check out everyone's pieces!
That is a sweet collage.
I used my yellow piece of felt to make cards this week.
I managed metal with some metal wire on some cards and metal charms on others.
HI Kristin, I first want to tell you that my treatment was great...so now I will be able to make my brown page.
Your page makes me smile, that chic chick is so cute...and I adore your background with the circle of text...I keep it in my mind...to copy you one day hi hi hi...thanks for so much for that summer of color...see you next week, have a nice time xxx
and my second message for the metallic brads I have use on my page...
I like the collage, very cute! I have my yellow up and I'm hoping to get a second piece up too this week (that one will hopefully have the bonus challenge completed too! ) I love seeing everything everyone has done, yellow is such a cheery color :) I think brown, although the color is so drab by itself, is going to bring out some really beautiful pieces!
Love the collage Kristin! That little chick is just the cutest ever. You are so creative!! Hope you are having a great week & look forward to seeing your brown!
I did manage to get some metallic acrylic onto my journal. I stamped some gold & bronze..but it is tough to see in the picture.
Wonderful works, everyone!
The second comment is now here, chuckle chuckle...
your collage is so sweet and pretty. Love the chick!
Here I am now linked to the right week! LOL Guess it has been one of those!
Love your piece! Mine is a complete change from what I planned at the start of this challenge - a cloth :) But then, that's the joy of being an artist - our privilege to explore and try something new!
Hi Kristin. I'm very late to the party. Hopefully I'll be back in the groove next week. Your collage was so bright and happy! Loved it! :)
I made an atc with this week's color. It's my first time joining in. Thanks for doing this...so much fun. Now I'll go look at all of the terrific links.
Yellow is almost always somewhere in my art!!!
Always makes me "smiley"!
I posted my Yellow project as well as Pink, since we were away last week I thought we should catch up!
I also added the metallic element in my yellow piece, I used gold paint to accent throughout and gold glitter on the butterflies! Had fun with this one!
:)
Kristin - love this collage! I am dying to do some real collage, but it is harder than I thought :) I was hoping to do a different yellow project but have not had time so this one will have to do. Really struggled this time - not because of the color but because I think I was overthinking this - I want to do something besides cards but I seem to end up doing a card anyway :) Maybe brown will be better for me. Hugs to you sweet Kristin and to all!
linked my yellow page! <3
Linked to my Yellow page
Used Metallic paint in my background along with two metallic punched butterflies for accents.
I'm having a fun time with this party, it's making me work and that's a good thing because I'm the kind of people that lives things for tomorrow, but this is helping me change that bad habit :)
Love your collage!! That circular piece is great! And how funny... I have a tendency to do "scratchy edges" on my collages too! My yellow piece has a bit of it. I can't wait to see your brown piece because I'm so used to seeing bright fun colors from you. Heck, I can't wait to see what I'll come up with too, lol!! I had a blast with yellow as you'll see by my LOOONG post!!
xoEsther
I made it!! I didn't think I will manage to finish on time. I hope that you enjoy this week's bracelet.

I love Nodland! It's just beautiful.
got mine done!
hi kristin! thanks for visiting my blog. sorry i took so long to reply, i kept forgetting to come here and make a comment!! (no excuse, i apologise!)
about your question on neocolour 1, i use it like a normal crayon. except it is slightly better in the sense it is water proof, so you can layer watery mediums on top of it after it is set and it will retain the colour. neocolour 2 is the more popular one which is water soluble. but i like neocolour 1 for the texture. hope this helps! :D
Probably one of my favoirte weeks (other than pink of course)So very proud of you my love.
