Here She Is (My Studio Tour) . . .

So I finally did it! After nearly 6 weeks of sorting, purging and reorganizing (did I mention the purging?), I have actually finished redoing my work space . . . . wanna see what I did? Okay, but I gotta warn you, there is an insane amount of pictures to follow. Like, insane. . . .

I started the documentation with some Instagram shots during the process:

Piles of stuff from the room. I took everything out.
Sorting through every single bit and bauble. Not kidding.
Organizing the paper tapes
Lovely Ladies
Years worth of Stampington mags gone through. The artist's papers were saved.

And here we are. The room as it was this morning. Knowing that it will never ever be this clean again, I'll take you on a tour starting from the front door:

My new art desk. This is the only thing I actually bought. Dave got it off of Craig's List for $30 bucks and reinforced it for me, adding 2 drawers along the way. I was going to skirt it, then thought it would be way cooler eventually covered and splattered in paint. Oh! And the rug is oil cloth - so the spills should wipe right off.
These doors lead to our front patio. The room is actually built as an adjoining casita. It is also our guest room when I am forced to be sociable ;)
Pull out couch - had to keep it in.
The closet. I'm not lying when I say that I couldn't open the door before. Sad but true.

And now for the little detail shots:

Each drawer has a purpose. Here are the ribbon and trim drawers. The rest of the chest is filled with fabric and fabric scraps. The clear, stackable trays were from my heavy scraping days.
This is my favorite part. Recognize The Summer of Color tin (actually an old ceiling tile)? Well, it's magnetic - perfect for holding some of my favorite cards and pieces from you!
Some of my favorite poem books for collage, pencil storage and an art jar.
Other people may think this is rather creepy - faces in jars that is. But we know better ;)

And here is one of the main sources of storage - all cleaned out and organized:

My old scrapbooking cabinet. It used to live in the kitchen.
A picture of my Mom & Grandma - and paints!
Did I mention that I organized every bit and bauble?
Under storage. Only the favorite books remain.

And just a few more details from around the room (I said insane):

Some of my art. Before you think I'm a narcissist, the framed piece was a gift from Dave when I got my first article (well, paragraph) published. Awe.
Some of my altered books on top of a cabinet filled with rubber stamps.
Brushes live here.

WHEW. We have now completed the tour. I hope you like it. Cause it will never look the same again . . . .

Thank you!
Kristin xo

Oh I LOVE how it looks!!! Thanks for sharing:) Your colors and all your goodies are so inspiring. I like the idea that you took everything out. I have a closet in my space and it NEEDS to be totally decluttered...you may have just inspired that!

Excellent! You've done a great job. Now go get it messy! tee hee. I remember the studio tours in the old days. Everyone would post their studio shots before and after. That was fun. Time to start it up again. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Wow - HOW GOOD MUST THAT FEEL! Bask in it - I bet it will be kind of hard to start your first new project! Thanks so much for taking us on that vicarious organizing tour - I'm drooling over that cabinet you have filled and organized to the hilt. And how nice that you have a whole room so you don't have to feel closed in by all your supplies (and what fun supplies they are!)

Holy moley. I think I swooned and hit something, yea, my mess...and then I fell over my piles...and spilled my brushes...and knocked over the shelf that was overflowing with magazines...because I can't open the door all the way...because my fabrics fell over...cuz the closet won't close. I'm insanely happy for you, but this is another fine mess I've gotten myself into from drooling over your Neatness...! Gosh, I still just LOVE the photo of you and your daughter. Sigh. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your studio, Kristin! You certainly earned the rights to create the autumn away. Kath

this is so freaky amazing... I scrolled down looked at each... then scrolled back up and looked through them all again... you must soooo need a sit down and about 20 cups of tea after all that work, but it is simply wonderful... you are going to spend many many productive and happy hours in there ... it is so inspiring...xx

There is something so inspiring about seeing where artists work their magic. I LOVED all the pictures. So many goodies to see! And...can I say - Wow - that scrapbook cabinet can hold oodles of things. Whoa! My favorite will always be artsy baubles in glass apothecary jars. Massive, knee-buckling swoon. :) Can't wait to see the creative magic that comes out of this "eventually messy" space!! xxoo

Eek! I'm so darn happy for you Kristin! It was well worth the time, dust bunnies (or is that just my space?), and dreaded purging! Love the space! That scrapbooking unit is just amazing (must have weighed a tonne trying to move it though, even if you did empty it out), and how sweet is your hubby framing your first article. Love, love, love! Awesome job Kristin!

Now quietly determined to get back out to the studio at the weekend to carry on purging my own space.
