The Summer of Color: Week Six . . .

"There shall be eternal Summer in the grateful heart"
- Celia Thaxter

I'm sitting on a redwood deck overlooking Big Bear Lake, CA as I write this. We arrived over the weekend for a few days of cool weather, mountain air and family time. And although there's so much to love, what I'm noticing more than anything else is the deeply saturated color around here. The blues sparkle more, the greens beg for my attention and last night's sunset seemed to actually be on fire. Okay, I know I'm a bit color-obsessed right now, but I don't care. I'm grateful for the awareness of it. And what I've come to find over our Summers together is that color, in and of itself, just makes me happy. Thank you for for joining this color quest and helping me discover this. I - and it - would not be the same without you.

As we head into our last prompt for The Summer of Color 4: Smudge, Splash & Pop, I hope you'll agree that the community and connection we've fostered has been as much fun as the creating. Your spirit and talents are an inspiration and I want to thank you from the bottom of my color-laden heart for sharing them with us here, in our Flickr pool and on our Facebook page. We have one week left to share our color creations with one another and I for one hope that this is our busiest week yet. If you've yet to join us, make this your time. After all, I've saved one of the best palettes for last. You could even say that I found inspiration from Summer itself. . . .

This Week:
We'll be working on our sixth - of six - color palettes. Your prompt will include two main colors along with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of a third. As ever, you may create anything at all, as long as it's based upon the colors of the week. So, ready for our last challenge? Here we go:

Raspberry & Tangerine
with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Lemon

To see examples of the color Raspberry, click here.
To see examples of the color Tangerine, click here.
To see examples of the combination of the two, click here

Then What?
You know the drill. Create anything you'd like in Raspberry & Tangerine (with that Smudge, Splash or Pop or Lemon) and link it to the widget below. To qualify for the Raspberry and Tangerine drawing, please copy and paste your direct blog link or direct Pinterest, Facebook or Flickr feed (or anything else that will link ;) by this Sunday, (10:00 am Pacific Standard Time), July 20th. Only one link per person, please.

Ready? Okay then, Go!

And Our Last Giveaway?
Don't miss your chance to win these little pretties:

Two sets of Recollections alpha embellishments in the colors, a few decorative napkins for collage, three large Amsterdam Acrylic tubes (4.1 oz) in Primary Magenta, Gold Yellow and Nickel Titan Yellow, a gorgeous 6 x 6 stencil from Balzer Designs, a package of 3mm Hot Fix Swarovski Crystals, three tiny Distress Inks in (can you believe it?) Pickled Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed, a large (8 oz) jar of Satin Mod Podge and, finally, a sprinkling of loose Swarovski crystals in clear and clear iridescent.

Love it? As a matter of fact, I (for the first time this Summer ;) just created a journal page using bits of the napkins shown above. Pop over to my Instagram page to see if you can find them.

Wait. Who Won Last Week's Giveaway?
Yes, that. The randomly selected winner last week was . . .

Anita Mistry from itsamistrydesignstudio

Congratulations Anita! Please email your address to Kdvanvalkenburgh@msn.com and I'll mail off your goods as soon as I get back into town.

And Next Week?
Well, you don't want to miss this one. We'll see you here next Monday as we reveal:

* The winner of the Raspberry & Tangerine giveaway
* Your SOC 2014 Artist Badge and . . .
* Information (well, just a tease really) about next year's Fifth Anniversary of the SOC!

Eeeeeeee!
See you then,
Kristin xo

Thank you very much Kirsten for making me use colours outside my comfort zone, you have done so again this week!

Really appreciate how much time & effort you have put into each and every choice of colour and all the comments you have left, you must be exhausted. Enjoy your time in the mountains and i hope to be back next year.

Off to ponder, this is another tough week with these colours lol:-) xxx

I want to thank you once again for being such a great and gracious host. I've known good and bad ones, and you are one of the BEST.

I look forward to playing again next year, because summer wouldn't be fun without SOC.

I hope you are enjoying your time away. I also hope you have a fun and SAFE vacation, filled with color, just like you have filled all of ours this summer!

I found you through Tammie Lee. I loved her picture so much I looked you up, and what a delightful meme you have here!

I hope it is alright, this week I put up a drawing with some of the colors in the palette--I'm not sure if other colors are allowed, but next week I will make one consistent with the colors you are looking for. Have a perfectly lovely summer day!

I'm glad I happened on to this challenge, although the party was almost over when I did! I love these colors, and I decided to concentrate on the colors themselves rather than a complicated art project. I don't usually do just collage, so this was fun for a change.

Beth Niquette said...

Haha--I just read this is the sixth week of six weeks of Summer of Color. Perhaps you could do an encore? I'm so sorry to have missed the first five weeks!

Dashing in here Kristin but probably missed the boat. Story of my life really...anyway I wanted to thank you for pushing me not only to pick up my paintbrushes (which is no mean feat) but also taking me out of my comfort zone with your colour choices.
I haven't posted for each week but I've certainly been giving the assignments lots of thought so that's good.
I hope I'll be able to participate fully for the next SOC.
Its an amazing bunch of talented creative people...that is so inspirational.
Thanks so much. Have fun xoxo

I forgot to link up my post, probably because I was in a hurry as always. I LOVED these colors so much, had fun with them and did a little something special that I did last year too.
Thanks so much for hosting us again and inspiring us with these yummy colors for 6 weeks. Sad to see it end and am already excited by your new SOC5, can't wait!

Thanks for the chance to link up even after the prize draw deadline! These were maybe my favourite colours of all, but we've had such a heat wave week that I've hardly sat down to upload anything.

The colour tangerine inspired me to paint orange daylilies, see my post
here!
