It's here! It's here! Helllllooooooo & Welcome to Week One of The Summer of Color 5: Color by Number!
First:
I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your help and enthusiasm in spreading the word about our colorful community! I can't wait to get playing, can't wait to dive into our first color palette and can't wait to see what you do with this year's anniversary addition! And really, if the opening week is any indication of how much fun we're gonna have this year, then I'd say we're in for a drippy, sparkly, colorful Summer indeed. . . .
Last Week:
During our Introductory Week we discussed all the ways we can participate in The Summer of Color. If you'd like a review of the event, just pop over here and take a gander. I promise, this is one arty party you don't want to miss.
This Week:
The real fun begins! We'll be working with our first - of six - color palettes. For The SOC 5: Color by Number, you'll be prompted to choose a combination of colors that you prefer, based upon a generic color palette that I will provide. Each week the palette will be 2 of one color plus 1 of another. So, we'll all be working within the same general color palette, but our choices within that palette will be as varied as we are. And as always, you can create anything your little heart desires, with color being the only stipulation.
Got It! Now Gimme The Colors!
You bet. Since this year's SOC materials are all pretty in blues n' green, I thought we'd start there. Soooooooo, (drum roll please) our first color palette of the Summer is . . . .
1 Blue + 1 Blue + 1 Green
Again, which particular blues and greens you use is all up to you! Want a little help? You got it! Here's our first anniversary addition: a PDF you can download and use to record your very own version of the palette!
Pretty cool, right? Wanna know something else that's new?
I'm playing too!
And this year, we're taking the SOC to YouTube! That's right: from this week on, you can see how I approach the challenges by watching them unfold before your eyes (okay, that sounds dramatic, but you know what I mean). Ready for my take on Week One? Yes? Eeeeeeep, here goes. . . .
And What About Our First Colorful Giveaway?
Well now, you know I wouldn't disappoint. Our pretty fabulous giveaway for Week One is:
{One 2 x 3 mailable photo frame / card, three gorgeous leather-bound Poppin mini notebooks, three Luminere metallic and pearlescent paints in Halo Blue Gold, Pearl Emerald and Pearl Turquoise, three (amazing, my favorite!) Golden High Flow Acrylics in Flourescent Green, Fluorescent Blue and Teal, two Gel Xtreme Pastel Rollers in blue and green, six (yes, six!) Caran D'Ache Neocolor 1 (water-soluble wax pastel) and 11 (wax oil pastel) crayons, several decorative napkins for collage and - last but not least - a sprinkling of iridescent confetti stars.}
I know, I know! Oh!
And last week's Winner of a $50 Gift Card to Blick Art Supplies was selected at random and is going to none other than. . . .
Kathryn from Paper Pumpkin!
(please note: all winners will be selected at random via a Random Number Generator.
The photos / proof of each week's winners will be on file and happily sent to anyone who would like to see them.)
Congratulations, Kathryn! Please send your email address to Kdvanvalkenburgh@msn.com and I'll send your gift card electronically so you can start shopping right away!
So, Are. You. Ready?!

To Love, Color & The Love of Color,
Kristin xo
Looks like fun, loved seeing what you made! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to inspire us with a video ! Thank you - I enjoyed it!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThank you for the video, your creation was fab and so inspiring with the colours, must admit I had a little giggle when you used the end of a pencil to create the small circles as not many people use everyday implements to create art, it's all to easy to buy a gadget for the purpose.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to getting stuck in later this week. x
Congrats to Kathryn! And YAY, Kristin! I absolutely LOVED your video and your art work that you made using these colors. I can't wait to get started! Thank you so much for hosting this amazing party once again! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the widget? Can't find it!
ReplyDeleteLove what you made! And congrats to Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteYour painting is fabulous Kristin. I love the sparkle you added to the drips of paint and the twinkle (of course), in her eye. :D
ReplyDeleteAm I right thinking, after seeing the video, that we don't have to stick to two blues and one green? We can use several shades/hues of the two colours?
:-D Mo xo
FABULOUS painting - I just love that and what gorgeous colours you have chosen :-D
ReplyDeleteHugz
IKE xx
such a wonderful idea with the video! Very exciting
ReplyDeleteso fun to watch your piece come to life. it turned out wonderful.
ReplyDeletesuch fun colors too! I am wondering if there is where the linky will be, on this post? Or maybe it goes up at the end of the week?
nice color choices, I just finished a new piece yesterday and found out the colors are just perfect for this week's colors. I do not see a widget for links, perhaps it will be up later?
ReplyDeleteanyway, hope you have a lovely day.
Hi everyone! Thank you for your comments about the widget - for some reason, it didn't come up in the automatic post. I've fixed it and everything is now up and running, thank you!
ReplyDeleteKristin xo
I enjoyed your video. Love what you did. Thanks.
ReplyDeletePlease note: There's a great question about the number of colors we can use as I played with a variety in my video - please know that although I used various supplies to create my piece, I did attempt to stick to the same hues regardless. Our total piece should reflect the use of 1 Blue + 1 Blue + 1 Green. I hope that helps! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteKristin xo

ReplyDeleteHow fun Kristin - I loved seeing your creative magic! I'm so happy to be playing along again this summer - wishing us all a colorful time!
ReplyDeleteYour video shows how easily you are able to take disparate items and turn them into art. I'm SO, SO glad no drawing or sketching is required, or I'd never be able to play along (grin). I really love your signature faces, though. Thanks for inspiring us even more than you have in years past. I adore your art.

I requested to join the SOC FaceBook group and it is pending. If I post the picture there after approval, will that enter me in the giveaway? Thanks so much for any help. Looking forward to the next week's colors.
