The Summer of Color: Week Five . . .

"My Mother warned me to avoid things coloured red"
- Claes Oldenburg

Where has the time gone?! I can hardly believe that we're heading into Week Five of The Summer of Color 4: Smudge, Splash & Pop! I know a lot of us are already dreading the end, but not to fear! There are still two weeks left of challenging color prompts, colorful giveaways and time together in our amazingly creative community. And as far as fun things are concerned, two weeks left is quite a lot indeed. So keep the creativity flowing and the love going 'cause we're headed towards another color conundrum. . .

This Week:
We'll be working on our fifth - of six - color palettes. Your prompt will include two main colors along with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of a third. Feel free to create anything at all that you'd like, as long as it's based upon the colors of the week. And if you've just found us, welcome! You can read all about the party here, check out our Facebook page here and see all SOC photos in one place over here. Oh, and if you're into social media, please use the hashtag #TheSummerofColorFour so we can all find each other out there.

Yeah, Yeah. We Wanna See the Colors!
I gotcha. Although I know it looks as if this week's palette was influenced by last week's holiday in the States, I promise this has been in the kitty for a while. Having said that, it is a cool combination, one which I hope you'll love. Ready? Here we go:

Red & Royal Blue
with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Light Blue

Okay, Cool. Now What?
Now you create! When you're done, you may link your Red & Royal Blue (with that Smudge, Splash or Pop of Light Blue) to the widget below. To qualify for the Red & Royal Blue drawing, please copy and paste your direct blog link or direct Pinterest, Facebook or Flickr feed by this Sunday, (10:00 am Pacific Standard Time), July 13th. Only one link per person, pretty please.

Ready? Okay, Link:

Oh! And What About the New Giveaway?
Right! I think it's another pretty cool one, yes?

Two Craft Smart ink pads in Red and Blue, one set of 10 (adorable) red notecards, one large Recollections stamp in a lattice pattern, three PanPastel Artists' Pastels in Permanent Red, Phthalo Blue and Turquoise, one gorgeous Fabriano 5.8 x 8.25 red journal, two Martha Stewart high gloss multi-surface craft paints in Habanero and Indigo and, for the vintage fans among us, two child's toy blocks (from my personal stash) in the colors and, naturally, a sprinkling of both clear and light blue Swarovski Crystals.

And Who Won Last Week's Giveaway?
I hear tell that it's a birthday girl! That Random Number Generator really knew what it was doing this week. Happy Birthday and Congratulations to:

Please email your address to Kdvanvalkenburgh@msn.com and I'll get your goods right out.

And Now?
Ah, you know! I'm looking forward to seeing what your creative minds do with this one. Have fun!

Colorful Kisses,

The Summer of Color: Week Five . . .

"We become intoxicated with color, with words that speak of color, and with the sun that makes colors brighter"
- Andre Derain

Welcome to Week Five of The Summer of Color . . . .

Once again I come to you with excitement and gratitude for your part in making this colorful journey together as wonderful as it is. I love-ity, love love (we'll pretend that's a word ;) all of the connections being made, the friendships being built and of course, seeing and being inspired by all of your gorgeous artwork. It makes me a proud SOC Mama for sure . . . .

Speaking of proud, our Flickr pool is nearing the 1,000 photo mark and our Facebook page continues to be the place to see and be seen. If you haven't done so already, please feel free to add your work to either area. I promise you'll love the camaraderie there. And, if you're just now finding us, it's certainly not too late to join in! We'd be honored to have you.

Now On With the Show:
For this, our 5th week together, we'll be working with the two-color combination that 16% of us choose. I must say, this was a close race, with the winner just edging out the others. I'm thrilled to say that we're going bold this week as the newest prompt is . . .

Candy Apple Red & Yellow

Jan from Jan's Arty Junk

Congratulations Jan! Please send me your address and I will get your prize right out.

And Now, On to our Last Poll:
It's hard to believe I know, but this is our last poll of the Summer (boo). For Week Six's color selections, I combined the top 12 favorites yet to be used. The Summer of Color: Week Five!

Welcome to Week Five of The Summer of Color 2: Ice Cream Inspirations!

It's been a beautiful week perusing all of the artwork inspired by our latest flavor, "Strawberry Lemonade": I'm continually awed and amazed by all of the talent you possess and share and am thrilled by the enthusiasm and friendship found here, on our Facebook page and in our Flickr pool. Keep those pictures coming - if even for my own selfish reasons - as I get a little twinkle in my eye every time I see something new posted . . . .

You may have noticed that the Ice Cream flavors selected for the event seem a bit - dare I say - unusual. Well, I'll let you in on a little secret: I never expected to have such difficulty finding a variety of colors to offer! When it comes down to it, I've learned that although there are literally hundreds to choose from, most ice cream colors are, well, a bit similar to each other. In order to provide a varied group of color prompts, I rediscovered a childhood love of sherbets. They're cool, often translucent in nature but almost always bold and colorful. With that said, I bring you our fifth prompt . . . .

Wild n' Reckless Sherbet!
As of today, you may link your artwork inspired by the colors found in Wild n' Reckless Sherbet (check out this post to see the flavor up close). To do so, please copy and paste the direct link from your blog or Flickr page to the widget below. You will have the entire week - Until Sunday July 15th (Pacific Standard Time) - to get it in. Those who link their Wild n' Reckless pieces will also be in the pool to win this goodie bag:

{3 pages of clip art from the TJ Designs Storybook collection, 3 Martha Stewart craft paints in Pacific Iris, Pond and Spring Pasture, a set of liquid Pearls from Ranger (and I really want this!), 3 tubes of Stickles glitter in Lavender, Holly and Waterfall, 2 4 x 4 canvas panels, 3 Sakura metallic Gelly Roll pens (from the Ice Cream Smooth collection) and last but not least, a sprinkling of Swarovski crystals in purple, blue and iridescent}

Inspired?!
Okay, go ahead and link your Wild n' Reckless now:

Wanna know who won our "Strawberry Lemonade" giveaway?
It was none other than . . .

Please email me your address and I'll get the prize right out to you!

Are you ready for our LAST color prompt?
Your next challenge - from Monday July 16th - Sunday July 22nd - is the perfect Summer treat:

Watermelon Ice

(And I did actually try this one - the "seeds" are chocolate ;)

"Summertime, Summertime, Sum, Sum" . . . well, you get the picture!

Have fun and happy creating,
Kristin xo
