The Summer of Color: Week Three . . .

"Color helps to express light, not the physical phenomenon, but the only light that really exists, that in the artist's brain."
- Henri Matisse, 1945

Welcome to Week Three of The Summer of Color . . .

How crazy-beautiful are we?! The creativity, love and overwhelming support of one another in this colorful journey is as exciting as it is inspiring. Our numbers continue to grow and the energy exuding from our Facebook page and Flickr pool is nothing less than extraordinary. I'm so proud of the community we're fostering and continually impressed by the amount and variety of work we're producing. Thank you for sharing your heart and talents with us all. . . .

Speaking of Sharing:
Wow, we had over 140 links in Week Two alone! I know it can be a challenge to keep up with it all, but please know that we have all the time in the world to visit each other as the event goes on. Although there has to be a deadline to qualify for the random weekly drawing, you can certainly continue to add your work at any time. I promise, it will be seen. In addition, there are those who've asked about a special hash tag for social media. (What a great idea). Should you desire, you can now use #Summerofcolor3 to share your work on Instagram and other such sites. This is not necessary of course, just another way to see and be seen throughout our colorful Summer together.

Wait! What if I've Just Joined?
Well, welcome! We're happy to have you. Each week stands on it's own, so please feel free to pop in at any time. I know you'll be glad that you did.

On to Week Three:
We'll be working with our third two-color combination that over 170 of us voted on in last week's poll. The winner - by an impressive 17% - was . . .

Lime Green & Purple

To see examples of the color Lime Green, click here
To see examples of the color Purple, click here
To see examples of the combination of the two, click here

Okay, Let's Go!
Feel free to create anything you'd like, as long as it's based upon the colors of the week. You have until Sunday of this week (June 30th, 10:00 am, Pacific Daylight Time) to link to the widget below and qualify for the random Lime Green & Purple drawing. Only one link per person please.

What's up for Grabs This Week?
This lovely collection of both vintage and new materials:

{2 pieces of gorgeous decorative paper in the colors of the week, over a dozen pages of vintage sheet music, 2 bottles of (how cool is this!) Martha Stewart glass paint, 2 packages of brightly colored copper wire, 3 chipboard houses, 2 bottles of glitter glue, 2 medium point Sharpie paint pens, one darling vintage postcard stamped and dated 1926, 2 100% cotton fabric quarters, 2 Fimo (soft and effect) pieces of modeling clay and lastly, several beads and, naturally, Swarovski crystals in the colors of the week}

Remember, you have until this Sunday morning (10:00 am, Pacific Daylight Time) to link your work and be considered for the drawing.

Oh! And Who Won Last Week's Prize?
Congratulations are in order for  . . .

Natasha White of Natasha White Designs

Yay Natasha! Please email me your address and I'll get your prize right out to you!

And Now On To Our Next Poll:

Hi there dear Kristin,

It's way past my bedtime, especially since I have to be up in less than 4 hours. But I wanted to thank you once again for leaving the poll in place.

I'm not sure who wanted those colors, but to me, they spelled mud. Of course, you have much prettier colors in the giveaway than I had to work with, so I made more mud.

Have a great week.

Another week of fun with my gelli plate. After week one I realized I had to actually teach some of these techniques so it was a 'lock' on the next class being about using the Gelli Arts plate on my blog. Just LOVE all of the wonderful interpretations of this color combination, which, is NOT my favorite but majority rulz.... :)

Once again, not a colour combination I would have chosen! Which is fine by me: I'm loving being pushed to play with all these bright colours.

I am so impressed with all the wonderful artwork I'm seeing in the gallery. Wow!

Thank you so much for hosting this challenge, Kristin, and for taking the time to visit our entries.

Yay, not scraping in at the last minute this week (feeling pretty smug with myself here!). Loved working with these colours even though they are not my favourites.

Sweetie, when you get a chance, would you mind visiting my blog link that's in the flickr description of the page I linked to above? I didn't want to steer people away from SOC, so linked to flickr rather than the blog post, but do think you'd be great for the FB group I've created. xoxoxox

I've had to make an executive decision . . . .

Due to the overwhelming (fabulous, incredible!) response to the SOC this year, I'm going to have to change the way I comment on your beautiful work. In order to keep up with the link list (and therefore catch anything that may need my attention) in a more timely fashion, unfortunately, I will no longer be able to leave personal notes on your blogs and/or Flickr feeds.

Please know that this was a hard decision for me to make and that I WILL ABSOLUTELY see every piece that is linked to the blog either way. From now forward, you'll know I stopped by when you see my "xo" in your comments.

It is my sincere goal to show my support and love to each and every participant, so please know that I adore you even though I'll be "quieter" as the remaining weeks go by. Believe me, I'm here!

Thank you for your understanding!
Kristin xo

Thanks so much Kristin for letting us know about the comments from you. I can imagine how hard it is for you to see all these amazing projects from everyone! I am doing my best to go thru as many as possible too. No worries about it and we know you love this just as much as we do.
I've just linked up and WOW, these colors were so fun. I will play with them more when the week is over and think even for Halloween they will be fun too.
Thanks so much for making my days full of color again!!

Okey dokey, I'm good to go. I'm looking at what is going to be next weeks colors and those may be hard to work with. Happy SOC day.

Kristin said...

Woo I was able to get week 3 in!! I thought I would really like working with these colors but seeing as I am still bad with layering and I just don't see how these colors can layer well. I kept getting a muddy look to it so I painted over it and started over. It's definitely a learning experience!

Well, I missed last week, but I'm back this week with a birthday card.

Love those two colors together! I have tried to stay by the lime green, but in the end the seagreen has take over the whole scene ;) ♥ Conny

just found this site and it looks like fun. I posted a photo I took yesterday...it is almost lime green(a bit more grass green) but definitely purple. It is of a wild iris.
A close-up...mostly because of an errant grass stem

Due to time constraints, I've been enjoying most of the submissions through Facebook, but I do hope to catch up on everyone, even if it takes me the rest of the summer. What I've seen on FB alone is terrific!
