"Color helps to express light, not the physical phenomenon, but the only light that really exists, that in the artist's brain."
- Henri Matisse, 1945
Welcome to Week Three of The Summer of Color . . .
How crazy-beautiful are we?! The creativity, love and overwhelming support of one another in this colorful journey is as exciting as it is inspiring. Our numbers continue to grow and the energy exuding from our Facebook page and Flickr pool is nothing less than extraordinary. I'm so proud of the community we're fostering and continually impressed by the amount and variety of work we're producing. Thank you for sharing your heart and talents with us all. . . .
Speaking of Sharing:
Wow, we had over 140 links in Week Two alone! I know it can be a challenge to keep up with it all, but please know that we have all the time in the world to visit each other as the event goes on. Although there has to be a deadline to qualify for the random weekly drawing, you can certainly continue to add your work at any time. I promise, it will be seen. In addition, there are those who've asked about a special hash tag for social media. (What a great idea). Should you desire, you can now use #Summerofcolor3 to share your work on Instagram and other such sites. This is not necessary of course, just another way to see and be seen throughout our colorful Summer together.
Wait! What if I've Just Joined?
Well, welcome! We're happy to have you. Each week stands on it's own, so please feel free to pop in at any time. I know you'll be glad that you did.
On to Week Three:
We'll be working with our third two-color combination that over 170 of us voted on in last week's poll. The winner - by an impressive 17% - was . . .
Lime Green & Purple

Hi there dear Kristin,
It's way past my bedtime, especially since I have to be up in less than 4 hours. But I wanted to thank you once again for leaving the poll in place.
I'm not sure who wanted those colors, but to me, they spelled mud. Of course, you have much prettier colors in the giveaway than I had to work with, so I made more mud.
Have a great week.
This looks like it's going to be another colourful week of fun! Valerie
I'm so excited for this week's colors, they are my favorite!!

I will leave aside the blank mind I have for these colours at the moment. I can't believe I won!

Another week of fun with my gelli plate. After week one I realized I had to actually teach some of these techniques so it was a 'lock' on the next class being about using the Gelli Arts plate on my blog. Just LOVE all of the wonderful interpretations of this color combination, which, is NOT my favorite but majority rulz.... :)
every week I vote for the same colour combo but it's yet to come up - it has got the top number of votes so far for next week though! Still this week's gave me an idea and it turned out to be the perfect colour combo after all! I love this challenge!
Congrats to Natasha! Loving the colors (well, I have loved them every year!)!

This is such a fun event, and I am Loving the color combos!
Congrats to Natasha! Tee
Once again, not a colour combination I would have chosen! Which is fine by me: I'm loving being pushed to play with all these bright colours.
I am so impressed with all the wonderful artwork I'm seeing in the gallery. Wow!
Thank you so much for hosting this challenge, Kristin, and for taking the time to visit our entries.
Yay, not scraping in at the last minute this week (feeling pretty smug with myself here!). Loved working with these colours even though they are not my favourites.
Sweetie, when you get a chance, would you mind visiting my blog link that's in the flickr description of the page I linked to above? I didn't want to steer people away from SOC, so linked to flickr rather than the blog post, but do think you'd be great for the FB group I've created. xoxoxox
Now.... I love a bit of lime...not too sure of purple...but saying that...I enjoyed stitching with this weeks colour combo Kristin.... :) Jan x
Pretty!Looking forward to a new colorful page to My journal
:D hello! I was sick for two weeks and missed the fun!! i'm here now and I think i might of entered my link two times. yikes! :D I look forward to checking out other lovely artists!! :D Have a lovely rest of the week!
I've had to make an executive decision . . . .
Due to the overwhelming (fabulous, incredible!) response to the SOC this year, I'm going to have to change the way I comment on your beautiful work. In order to keep up with the link list (and therefore catch anything that may need my attention) in a more timely fashion, unfortunately, I will no longer be able to leave personal notes on your blogs and/or Flickr feeds.
Please know that this was a hard decision for me to make and that I WILL ABSOLUTELY see every piece that is linked to the blog either way. From now forward, you'll know I stopped by when you see my "xo" in your comments.
It is my sincere goal to show my support and love to each and every participant, so please know that I adore you even though I'll be "quieter" as the remaining weeks go by. Believe me, I'm here!
Thank you for your understanding!
Kristin xo
Ok - did some mail art with my gelli plate and lime green & purple (and some white...) Hope you enjoy.
Xo to you, Kristin, for the love and work you put into this all year and especially these six weeks!! This is SO MUCH FUN! I can't tell you how much I've looked forward to this. Every year gets even better! Thank you for your kind words and thoughts... Kath
Oh Kristin, this is such a wonderful, colorful and exciting summer spectacle. Many thanks again for hosting this party!
Lime green is not usually a colour I would be friends with, but it is not so bad after all! :)
This is the first time I've taken part in the Summer of Colours! I really like that it made me paint something I wouldn't normally, thank you!
This is a fun idea. Thanks for letting me be a part of it. My painting is one of many on my post. Scroll down and you'll find it. Its Lavender painted on a lime background.
A surprising combo for me this week, Kristin! Lots of fun!! Oh & I'm linked up too!
Read about this series twice today - so glad the universe pointed me in your direction. So fun! I'm off to my art journal, and off to do some lime and purple (LOVE that combo, btw).
Great colors this week. I have just posted my entry.
Thanks so much Kristin for letting us know about the comments from you. I can imagine how hard it is for you to see all these amazing projects from everyone! I am doing my best to go thru as many as possible too. No worries about it and we know you love this just as much as we do.
I've just linked up and WOW, these colors were so fun. I will play with them more when the week is over and think even for Halloween they will be fun too.
Thanks so much for making my days full of color again!!
HUGS
Dawn
I posted about my color work for this week.
Ok I'm on here now !!
Okey dokey, I'm good to go. I'm looking at what is going to be next weeks colors and those may be hard to work with. Happy SOC day.
Woo I was able to get week 3 in!! I thought I would really like working with these colors but seeing as I am still bad with layering and I just don't see how these colors can layer well. I kept getting a muddy look to it so I painted over it and started over. It's definitely a learning experience!
Well, I missed last week, but I'm back this week with a birthday card.
Thanks for another fun week! I've posted a new scrapbook layout for this week.
Love those two colors together! I have tried to stay by the lime green, but in the end the seagreen has take over the whole scene ;) ♥ Conny

just found this site and it looks like fun. I posted a photo I took yesterday...it is almost lime green(a bit more grass green) but definitely purple. It is of a wild iris.
A close-up...mostly because of an errant grass stem
woo hoo! just caught up with last week and this week two. love the color combos!!
Can't wait to see next weeks colors!
Thanks for hosting!
Such a wonderful color combination! Enjoyed making the origami window stars again this week.
Thanks for hosting the SOC!
Managing to keep up - this was a busy week - glad to be here though
Very Nice. . .
Due to time constraints, I've been enjoying most of the submissions through Facebook, but I do hope to catch up on everyone, even if it takes me the rest of the summer. What I've seen on FB alone is terrific!
So here it is, a whole day early! Mainly just wanted it out of my life....love these colors, and usually like them together, but this is NOT my best effort! But I feel bold sharing the good and the ugly with all of your here!!!Kristin (the other one)
I love Martha Stewart glass paint! I only have silver, but it is so much fun.
Thanks for hosting Kristin and inviting all this color into my summer. I love what I'm seeing and can't wait to do a bit more exploring of all the delicious creations posted.
Just posted my final creation for the week!
Great colour combo for this week! What amazing creations everyone has been making!
Finally Joining in!!!
Luckily my garden helped me out this week as I have had NO time to be arty for the last few days... I do love this week's colors though and will no doubt play with them more this summer.
And so she was a week late and so last minute...
I know that I am too late for this week's drawing, but I wanted to show you all my entry anyway!
thanks so much, Kristen, for having this wonderful challenge!!!!
OK, I've completed a project 3 weeks in a row (OK maybe an hour or so past deadline but "hey, who's counting?" I'm so enjoying these!
Ok I'm late to the party as well, but better late than never hey? I'm gonna link up anyway and then have a wander around blogland seeing what everyone else has been up too - loved playing with lime and purple! Thanks Kristin and I hoope you're enjoying your hols. :o)
