SOC5: One. Week. To. Go!

As I sit here now I can hardly believe that The Summer of Color 5 is just one, teeny-tiny week away! That's just One Week until we all meet again, One Week until our first giveaway and One Week until all this year's secrets are revealed!

Can't wait? (I know. Feeling's mutual). Then pop over to our Flickr page and check out last year's work and our Facebook group to begin the colorful conversations. Oh! And remember: there is no art in the opening week, so you'll have plenty of time to get your thinking caps on and your favorite supplies out. . . .

SOC5: Two Weeks & Counting. . . .

Eeeeeeeep!

We have just two, teeny-tiny weeks to go before all is revealed for The Summer of Color 5! And let me tell you, this is one year not to be missed. Sooooo, whether you're finding us for the first time or are chomping at the bit for another go, I promise you a Summer full drippy, colorful fun!

BUT, since we do have to wait a bit, why not try our hand at a color quiz? Can YOU name all the colors? (hint: I could not. humph.)

SOC5: Let the Countdown Begin!

Okay. It's official. With just three itty-bitty weeks before The Summer of Color 5 begins, it's time to start counting down to the fun! Beginning of course, with some of our SOC traditions. 

One of my favorite ways to get the color mojo going, is to watch a video I first shared 5 years ago when The Summer of Color was just a baby. She's grown up a lot since then, but this one is worth revisiting. Plus, since it's been a part of our party from the beginning, I think it only fitting that in this, the anniversary of our 5th year together, we start from the top. So, without further adieu, check out this absolutely fabulous video from artist Holton Rower. . . .

Dreamy, right? Doesn't it make you want to pull out your old acid wash jeans and get pouring? (Yeah, me too). 

Speaking of growing up, I'm terribly excited to report that this year, the SOC is turing it up a notch. Along with our traditional play, we're introducing some new elements that - although top secret until our introductory week beginning June 1st - I hope you'll agree are quite exciting. After all, I gotta keep you guessing somehow! 

Oh, and about that: I've been asked a lot of questions over the years about The Summer of Color and how it all began. Should you have a question about the SOC that you'd like to have answered, please do ask away. Anything and everything is fair game. You can post your questions here in the comments below or over here in our Facebook group. I'll compile them all and get back to you the week before we begin.

Ophelia: A Palette of Whites . . .

She's finished! The little lady I was working on Last week that is - and she even has her own "wings" to show for it. I tried my hand at an all-white palette this time, hoping to see how far I could get with a lack of color altogether. I know that a successful interior design using mostly whites rely on textures and depth to create interest, so I went about seeing how much texture I could add to the mix. Turns out, a lotta molding paste and added pieces did the trick. Wanna see what I did with her? Okay then, here goes:

Full piece with "wings" that extend off of the bottom.

Her hair and "hat" were created with molding paste pushed through stencils and mesh fruit bags that were first painted white before being adhered with E-6000. 

The piece of vintage text that inspired the Title.

And there you have it! Sweet Little Ophelia, all dressed in white. . . 

Speaking of the opposite of white, The SOC 5 is just Four. Tiny. Weeks. From. Today! Are you ready?!
