Confidence: A Resolution in Action . . .

"Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy."
-- Norman Vincent Peale

Confidence.

It's a word that hits hard. On one hand, to have confidence in something means that you have an undeniable trust, faith or conviction in it. To be confident can mean that you are self-assertive, bold and brave. Either way, confidence is a word which, in my opinion, begs for action. You can't be confident and idle at the same time; confidence does not have room for self-doubt or insecurity. And confidence, my friends, is what I aim to possess more of this year.

For me, part of tapping into that is allowing myself the time I need to create. I will never grow as an artist if I don't give myself the freedom to play. With play comes knowledge. And experience. And, in the long run, more knowledge and experience can only bring about more confidence in myself. This year, I'm gonna try new things. I'm going to expand my horizons. I'm going to be brave. And even if it kills me, I am going to exude confidence. Just watch me.

(The beginnings of a new art journal a la Teesha Moore)

My first action? To allow myself the time to journal on a daily basis. Fact is, I miss creating on the regular. But my life is so full these days, the only way I can get more time is to wake up earlier to do it. So, that's what I've done. I'm getting up an hour earlier every day so that I can spend time getting messy. Here are the results of my first week in the studio. Only one spread complete, but oh what fun I had doing it. . . .

Thank you for taking a peek. And Happy New Year. You confident one, you!

Good for you, I think we can all use a good dose of confidence, I suspect insecurity runs rampant in many of us, I know I have to battle it constantly!

I really love your art journal page, it's obvious that you let go and just enjoyed making it, which makes it a joy to look at. I too want to do more journaling this year, and focus on playing and experimenting and be less invested in the final product.

Yup confidence is an action word, I agree. My Counselor told me in order to have confidence I had to transform. So that was my word "transform" for a whole year before I got to confidence. :)

Love your work, so free and bright! Happy Paint Party Friday!

The beautiful art you made, YAY I love the colors and the hour you spend enjoying it shows! Good for you making the time for yourself and your art. It's important to not forget about ourselves in the busy days. I get up early every day just for the quiet time.

You inspire me! I love reading your post and I am trying to journal more this year too. I completely agree that playing in a journal regularly breeds artistic confidence! I have felt it over the past few days while I have been journaling up a storm. I can't wait to see the pages you create this year. Keep me accountable, lol! xoxo

I'm lucky now, I have the time to play since I retired in August (Im' a MUCH older Kristin!!!). I'm totally with you on the time to play - I actually sewed papers together yesterday, took the time to play with some new processes in order to add them to my journal.

You go, girl - so impressed with your willingness to get up earlier to get it done!

Hello Kindred..so powerfully written..what a super beautiful post..and gorgeous art..expressive and shining with energy and spirit..the colors sparking my soul!I know exactly what you mean/how you feel..I have had to push my self out of my hermit-safe-comfort zone and out into the open space many times...in order to grow-cultivate that sense of confidence, being very shy. I think you are amazing and keep shining on and shining bright, you inspire many!
hugs
Victoria
PS: I am so looking forward to your summer of color..(I had been too shy to join and glad I did)
