All TOgether Now!

"The Dreamers of Dreams"
Original 8 x 10 on watercolor paper

It's HeeeeeRe!

Cool, Funny, Generous, Uber-Talented & Pretty, Pretty Amy is hosting the best-est ever Brag Party / Blog Hop this weekend, All Together Now. The crux of the event? Each participant is to offer a little giveaway and do a little bragging . . . .

Um, K, so the whole bragging thing doesn't come naturally to me - I'm nervous just thinking about it - but I agree that it's important to celebrate ourselves once in a while, and Amy's soirée is a brilliant way to learn more about each other in the process.

So, ready or not, (deep breath Kristin) here I go. Bragging:

* I am intensely loyal and generous. I'm the good kind of friend to have as I will always have your back, be your loudest cheerleader and never forget to tell you that I love you.

* I'm a great Wife and Mom and much more traditional than I ever expected to be. It's important to me to be there for Dave and Kendra and I know how lucky I am to be able to do so. I volunteer in the kid's class once a week and am at every school function helping out where I can. (Except for being the Otter Pop lady, a position I've successfully avoided for the last year). I also try to be the best wife to my (usually ;) sweet and incredibly handsome husband, whom I will be married to 10 years this November.

* I'm pretty stylish. I try to keep up with the latest fashion trends, eat well so I can fit into them (lotsa spinach around here), and when I leave the house, I'm always made up & put together. (Not the same story when I stay in, but since we're supposed to brag, I'll leave the description of PJ pants and old T-shirts out at this time).

* I have some decorating chops. My Mom is an interior designer / furniture restorer and as a result, I grew up with my room (and our home) being changed and "improved" every few months. Remember puffy fabric-framed mirrors? Yeah. I even had one of those at one point. As an adult, I've followed in those footsteps. I'm the girl you go to if you need any decorating advice, and I am also the one you ask to help decorate your nursery or kid's room. I've done over 13 rooms for my friends and their kids (see point one) in the last ten years.

* I know my way around some makeup. Before Mommyhood, my career was as a Beauty Director and Makeup Artist. I used to travel a lot, putting on fashion shows and speaking engagements for retail cosmetics. I would give Beauty tips and seasonal trends to audiences of hundreds of women and behind-the-counter beauty advisors. I've done makeup for the cover of an industry magazine and have even worked a couple of celebrity weddings.

* I'm lucky to get to do what I love art wise, and am pretty proud of the way I've gotten myself "out there" in the last couple of years. I am the happy host of The Summer of Color, a Blog Hop / Giveaway event that is going on it's second year this June.

From The Summer of Color, 2011
Featuring vintage nursery-rhyme imagery, vintage text, and a lotta shimmer and shine,
including a smattering of Swarovski crystals.
(Original post can be found here)

Speaking of which, we are meant to give something away here! I was racking my brain trying to figure out what I could offer, and thought of this original 8 x 10 on watercolor paper that I particularly love. I think it's appropriate for this event (and a group of arty souls) as it features this quote:

"We are the music-maters, And we are the dreamers of dreams, Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams; World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams; Yet we are the movers and shakers, Of the world forever, it seems." -- Arthur William O'Shaughnessy.

To win this original collage, all you need to do is (1) be a participant in All Together Now and (2) leave a comment saying so in this post. That's it. I'll pick a winner via the random number thingy and announce it here next Wednesday, May 23rd.

Why don't you join us? After all, every girl needs a chance to brag (and win stuff!) now and then . . . .

oh, I'm SO glad I stopped over here because I didn't know about the summer of color and now I want to play along! Three cheers for being a loyal friend. I'd be lost without mine. Nice job on the bragging. I bragged up a storm earlier today.

NOW I wish we lived near each other even more than I already did! Interior design is my second love as well. I already knew you were wonderful, now I know you're even more so!

I'm going to try and participate in this, if it's not too late, and if I can find time while I'm supposed to be doing my actual job (ssshhhhhhhh)...

I wish I was always put together when I go out! I try but there are days I look at myself and say, what were you thinking? I am playing along and found it hard to brag as well, but you seem to have a lot to be proud of!!! Totally want to join in with summer of color as well, I missed it last summer and felt soooo left out when I realized all of you had soo much fun!

This was such a cool post, Kristin! I had no idea about your former life!

I bet you're the Mom all the other Moms look at and wonder how you manage to have it all 'together' :)

It is wonderful to have so many great things to toot about!
I feel so fortunate to have met you here....
...though I wish you lived a little closer...I am in desperate need of some decorating help.....haha!

Biggest hugs, Sunshine!

What on earth is an Otter pop? I am most intrigued. Is it an ice lolly made out of furry animals? I hope not as I am rather fond of otters!

I am so thrilled that you are doing summer of colour again (even if you have not yet learned how to spell the word colour - you Americans!!)

Warmest wishes to you - lovely lady.

See, it feels good to do a little bragging!

I have to say that I wish I was well put together when I go out, but that is definitely *not* the case. I figure I have the excuse of living in the sticks, and making art on top of that! (I'm usually covered in dirt and paint, shall we say)

And yes, what exactly is an Otter pop??

Loved getting to 'know' you better through this post...and I lOVE every centimeter of that dreamy collage!

I have read your post twice now (enjoyed it both times-so glad to get to know you better) and just keep staring at the purple awesomeness and losing my train of thought. Never did find those thoughts just keep looking the girl on the moon in her purple glory...

Otter Pops = kinda like a popsicle without the stick! (There's probably a better definition than that somewhere, but there you go ;)

I am just now getting here, it's been too long, so I'm not participating, but always love to read your blog and have to say, that you are incredibly sweet and modest and I understand how hard it is to brag. I think you did a very nice job and didn't at all sound braggy. :) You have very awesome qualities and talents and it's always so fun to learn new things about other bloggers. I didn't know you were a make-up artist, but it makes sense, looking at your lovely profile picture. I would imagine your girlfriends love having you around for all sorts of reasons, fashionista, decorating advice, make-up, but I'm sure it's your sweet and generous spirit that they love the most. It definitely shines through your posts. Have a wonderful week and I hope you win a fun goody! Oh, I am sooo looking forward to the Summer of Color too! Hooray! I loved doing it last year and can't wait for these new yummy colors. I will post about it this week on my blog too, so I can hopefully get the word out to newbies! :) Big hugs!

kristin!
i just so happen to be a participant in this blog hop (:

hey so please honestly forgive me for being so late to visit and comment and chat with you - this weekend went awry because manslave came back home and i had to go to a wedding.
okay the wedding part was not really so disruptive except that i sort of didn't want to go.

But That Is Not The POint.
the point is that i am late (:

anyway! i love spinach too so much that i drink it in a smoothie every day, but i don't think it's keeping me slim. that's because i like all food as much as i like spinach so i'm not so good at staying trim (:

i envy your savviness with home decorating. my house is very 'oh put it here for now....'

(:

you know what i really Really like about this post?

you let us know you.

like, you aren't phoney at all.

now i like you TONS.

xxa

oh wow!!! i love "Dreamer of Dreams" - i have actually been thinking of that quote, as used in willy wonka, and want to paint some ode to the original movie but i love what you've done with it and the vintage ephemera makes it so lovely. i'm also obsessed with balloons lately (or maybe always and i'm just glad they're popular now?) so the whole piece is awesome and if i win it i'd love to hang it up in my playroom :)

Nicole Foshee said...

I really like your piece! It reminds me of my childhood books. I love that you take the time to put yourself together and look nice. I finally understood how important that is just a few years ago and I must say, it feels so much better to go out in public knowing that I put time and effort into my appearance. Thanks for the post!

You sound like a great mom and person! I'm doing the All Together Now blog hop too but I didn't post until today, for some reason I didn't get the post in my mailbox the way I usually do! I hope I'm not too late but....so what if I am, that means that the 2 people that have commented on my post have a 50% shot at winning, lol!
